XP STOCK STICKS
Up until a few years
ago, we were always on the search for the "perfect" stock stick. We wanted something lightweight, easy to handle, easy to
make neutral when needed, and flexible. The majority of what we found on the market, however, were the traditional sorting
sticks manufactured for working with cattle. While these sticks have their place, they were heavy, too long and
a little too awkward to work well for our purposes.
a few days in Denver one January at a trial, Kent decided to put together a couple of sticks for our own personal use.
He picked up some supplies, put them together and we went to the trial. As the day wore on, more and more handlers came over
to ask if they could 'borrow' our sticks. They became a popular item through the weekend trials. I think some of the handlers began
purposely leaving their sticks in the truck so they had an excuse to borrow ours!
Over the next few months,
we 'tested' the sticks at our clinics, and as we trialed. It wasn't long before we began receiving requests
from students and fellow competitors, and then even complete strangers who contacted us after seeing one of our sticks at
a clinic or trial. So, we started making a few and selling a few. To this day, we really don't think of it as a
'business' but rather a service to the herding community. We still don't manufacture in bulk, and have never formally
advertised our sticks.
The sticks are 40"
long, made of a fiberglass rod encased in vinyl tubing, with a black handle, and a vinyl tip on each end.
The sticks can
be personalized, with a label inside the tubing with your name, your ranch name, your dog's name ..........whatever you
prefer to have printed on it. A great way to keep from losing your stick when someone else accidently picks it up or you leave
it at a trial site. There is no question as to which stick is yours!
The sticks also
make great trophies or judges gifts.
Personalization is limited to two lines 20 characters per line. Here are a few examples

"When Kent and Lori came out to Washington for a clinic they brought
some stock sticks, some people had pre-ordered them with their names on the stick. I thought to myself, "What's the big deal,
it's just another stock stick. I have plenty of those in all shapes and sizes." One morning of the clinic,
I had forgotten my stick, so I borrowed an XP stick. That was the first time I used an XP stick, and the last time I
used any other stick I own. The XP stick is lightweight, yet strong. It's flexible too,
so when you swish it at your dog, you can get a swooshing sound, kind of like the sound a rope makes when you twirl it quickly
like a lasso. The length of the stick is perfect, a nice walking stick length, easy to carry around while doing every
day farm chores. The XP stock stick is also very durable. It can not break or splinter like other sticks, making it
a safer alternative to other materials like wood, or plain fiberglass. My mother lost her XP stick in the tall grass
one day. She went nuts looking for it almost everyday, and borrowed mine at every trial. She finally found her stick
a year later, it was in perfect condition, after a year outside in rain, snow, and sun. When you find something that works
you stick with it. I'm stuck on my XP stock stick."
"A friend of mine has one of your stock sticks and recommended it to me. It arrived
this week and I took it herding yesterday. Everyone at the farm where I go loved it and I thought for a few minutes
that I wouldn't be getting it back. It was funny to watch the ladies passing it back and forth and being reluctant to
let it go. I was happy that I had my name put inside of it. It is so nicely made down to the little knob on the
top that helps to keep it from flying out of my hand. I love the light weight and the fact that it is a bit flexible.
The length is also perfect. Thanks for doing such a great job."
